about the former paramedics accused of making and distributing child pornography. >> john nicklas and shannon honea are in jail, but there are new questions how they had access to children as young as two years old. barry simms joins us with the latest. >> that question is something police are still concerned about. they are trying to find an answer. they did have access somehow and a telling us this investigation has grown. the police probe into what happened inside of this house in the middle river and a hotel room has grown into a federal investigation. >> one of these incidents, we know, happened in georgia. we are working with the fbi on this case now. >> baltimore county police arrested 34-year-old j anjohn

nicklas and his 26-year-old girlfriend shannon honea. they engaged in and found the child sexual abuse. police are trying to identify the children. >> we want to first find them and get them what they need and then bring justice to the whole incident. >> both are emergency medical technicians. they work for an ambulance company that transports patients to hospitals and nursing homes. a spokesman says these are very serious allegations. we will cooperate fully with the appropriate law enforcement agencies. the company fired both on monday for not showing up to work for two days last week. of both past background checks. neither carried nor dispensed

medications as part of their duties. the documents allege one victim appeared to be unconscious and police observed mass amounts of prescription bottles inside of the bedroom. >> fortunately, we have received phone calls from the public about information about the suspects and also about the possibility of identifying some of these children. >> police are now evaluating that information that is coming in, trying to find out what is accurate and what is not. >> tonight, baltimore city police are investigating a beating in west baltimore. a man was beaten on west lombard street at around 3:30 this afternoon. the victim was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition. also, city police are investigating a deadly accident involving a person on a bicycle

around noon today on maryland avenue. police say and air-conditioning truck was traveling on lafayette when a bicyclist somehow got caught in the back wheels of the truck. the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. >> anne arundel county police are investigating a car crash that killed a brother and sister. authorities say it the sister was driving the car that lost control, hit a sign, flipped, and then careened into the woods. her 67-year-old brother was a passenger, and both died at the scene. the their 19-year-old son was flown to a trauma center. we are learning more tonight about an emergency landing at bwi marshall airport. sky team 11 was over the runway as the southwest airlines flight touched down.

a possible mechanical problem with the plane at's flaps' cost the scare. no one was hurt. >> martin o'malley is declaring his support for an east-west light rail line. the decision is meeting with some strong neighborhood opposition. the line would begin in baltimore county and and in east baltimore, but controversy continues to follow the route. david collins joins us live from the light rail station. >> we actually had an opportunity to discuss in length how the governor came to this decision. although this is a major and exciting development, the red line decision could fit into the category of "you can't please everybody." governor martin o'malley is riding the rails.

gas guzzlers for cars that are 61% more fuel efficient. this is the typical buyer $1,000 a year on gas. ford says cash for clunkers could boost the economy as manufacturers make more cars. clearly, this is a home run. but at what cost? >> i am not going to pass a bill that will cost our children to billion dollars. >> some ask is it fair to just help automakers? >> there are many people asking why is that industry being assisted when my industry isn't? >> so far, half of the cars came from america's big three that were sold under this program. some say it will not have a lasting impact on the economy until the government can create more jobs and boost consumer confidence.

>> maryland has asked for more than $8 million for the cash for clunkers program. the most sought-after cars under the program -- the ford focus, the toyota corolla, and the honda civic. >> one woman is hoping the fight to go green will get the green light. she wants to add a wind turbine to the top of her home by city law prohibits that. john sherman joins us live with that story. >> right now, a city board is considering that proposal. this wind turbine is extremely tall and also 6 feet wide, facing considerable neighborhood opposition. >> i am here to get the wind turbine approved because the laws that were written in 1971 -- no one has ever heard of this

>> officers were responding to a man holding a knife to a woman's throat. the problem is, when the officer went to get out of his vehicle to try to arrest the suspect, a car was coming southbound and took out the officers at door. we do not know the situation as far as the woman with the knife to her throat, but police have made an arrest and has the road shutdown. >> president obama made a surprise visit to the white house press briefing. he sang happy birthday and brought cupcakes. today is his 48th birthday, but he was not singing to himself. somebody else in the room was also celebrating.

the veteran reporter also celebrates her 89th birthday today. the president posed for pictures. >> the fda is adding stronger warnings to a group of multibillion dollar selling arthritis drugs, saying they can increase the risk of cancer in children and adolescents. the drug appears to increase the risk of cancer after they are used beyond 2.5 years. they are often prescribed to children with rheumatoid arthritis. several others are included in those warning spread university of michigan researchers surveyed more than 12,000 high school seniors and found 12% of them used prescription painkillers

for non-medical reasons. other studies have found many teens get strong painkillers from their own previous prescriptions. too much tv or time spent playing video games could raise blood pressure, even in young children. researchers looked at screen time for more than 100 kids. those that spend more time in front of the tv are playing video games had higher pressure -- higher blood pressure than those who spent time being physically active, regardless of weight and body fat. a new solution to a common problem, unsightly toenail fungus. there is a new way to fight it, using a laser. >> this patient is so embarrassed by the fund is in her toes, she did not want us to use her name or show her face.

isolated thunderstorms popped up around here. that storm is rapidly dissipating on its track to the northeast and is falling apart. you concede to our south west, a big area of thunderstorms rolling through the ohio valley with numerous reports of damaging winds. in the meantime, as you can see around most maryland, it is a dry weather pattern. there is an interesting feature that you can see on their radar screen. the outflow from the storms produced a cool boundary which is now producing another line of storms. that is now producing a little line of showers near western virginia. this little blind might impact parts of our area over the next

couple of hours. it has been a hazy, partly cloudy, warm day. at hagerstown, 84 degrees. tonight, a warm night, 67 to 74 degrees. probably less than 810% chance that your neighborhood gets hit by a storm -- less than a 10% chance that your neighborhood gets hit by a storm. there are those ohio valley storms. hot and humid air streaming out ahead of the front. that arise in our region tomorrow with a pretty good chance that most areas will pick up some rain tomorrow. 3:00 wednesday afternoon with some heavy rain indicating some heavy storms possible as that front works through. there might be a few lingering

horses. rob roblin joins us live with more on the story. >> first of all, this unit has been around for a long time, over 120 years. they need some financial help because of the budget cutbacks. when you talk to the officers in the unit, they will tell you very fast how valuable this unit is. the mounted unit has been here since 1888. it is the oldest running horse patrol in the country. >> it was funded by a cavalry civil war soldier. >> because of budget cuts, $200,000 is needed to provide for the horses. if they don't get that money, and the unit will be dissolved. >> it would be a shame to lose the unit. >> when you talk to the officers, you learn that the horses are valuable tools in

dangerous than drunk driving. the white house is announcing a summit today. sally kidd has more. >> transportation secretary says the goal of the summit is to come up with some concrete steps to stop people from texting or talking on a cell phone while driving. this move comes on the heels of a new study by the virginia tech transportation institute which shows text messaging while driving increases the risk of an accident 23 times. the secretary says it will take a coordinated nationwide effort to get results. >> people in america are very tired of the idea that people can text and drive and use cell phones and drive in some states. >> highway safety says 16 states in the district of columbia now banned texting for all drivers.

horses had to be moved to a nearby facility because of all the water. chris clackum has more. >> the downpour on tuesday was torrential at times, 6 inches of rain fell in three hours. >> water was falling from the sky faster than it could enter the system. >> much of louisville found itself drenched -- homes, cars, businesses were water logged. very little appears salvageable. the water was 3.5 feet deep. instead of rolling, cars floated down neighborhood roads. residents were trapped inside of their homes. by boat was the only way out for youngsters at a boys' and girls' club. much of the race track was underwater for most of the day as was part of the campus at the

this line of storms is a part of all that flooding out there. as you can see, one clustered moves through and then another one on its heels. the far eastern fringe of all of that is a little line of storms. some gusty winds and dangerous lightning associated with that little line of storms. a couple of isolated storms developing around baltimore were along the bay breeze. we saw a few of those pop up along the bay this afternoon. most areas will miss out on the action as far as beneficial rains go for this evening. nothing in the rain gauge officially this evening. 88 at the airport. a normal morning low at bwi

marshall. temperatures are still warm, upper 80's to around 90. 84 down at salisbury. quantico likely getting the impact of a little river breeze off of the potomac. overnight tonight, a couple of showers possible. generally speaking, a partly cloudy sky, temperatures in the 60's and 70's. sunset's this evening at a quarter past 8:00. severe storms from canada into the ohio valley, the front will impact us tomorrow. showers and storms will become more likely. that looks like tomorrow night, there is still a risk of a shower even into friday -- even into thursday morning.
